From the front room of a Sea Point home in 1997, to a thriving print shop on Long Street in Cape Town, Hot Ink has evolved from a humble two-man print shop, to a leading creative print innovator.
It all began in 1996 when founders, Lisa Saville and Nic Johnson, spotted a gap in the market for digitally printed z‑cards. What started in the front room of Lisa’s home, quickly grew into a thriving business, expanding equipment, staff, and premises before securing their own building in Long Street in 2004.
With her graphic design background, Lisa built Hot Ink’s design studio into a full creative department, setting them apart from competitors offering only basic DTP services. Nic’s astute financial leadership ensured continuous investment in cutting‑edge technology, helping Hot Ink pioneer several digital printing firsts in Cape Town.
In 2013, long‑term team member, Andrew Mance, joined the leadership team, and continues to maintain all their systems and keep their equipment running seamlessly. The signage division, which evolved organically alongside their core print services, is now led by Justin Morreira. He manages a nimble team of installers delivering beautiful large‑format prints, signage construction, and installation for domestic and commercial projects of all sizes.
Today, Hot Ink operates with a twenty-six-strong team, dedicated to creatively inspiring, innovating, and delivering unique, high-quality print solutions with the fastest possible turnaround times.
